About the Founder
Chitra Wendakoon, PhD
With over 30 years of hands-on experience in both industry and academia, Chitra brings a rare combination of scientific depth and practical, industry-focused insight. Her expertise spans the full pipeline of food science and microbiology — from applied research and product development through food safety management, regulatory compliance, and commercialization.
She holds a PhD in Food Science/Applied Microbiology from Kyoto University, Japan, and is fluent in Japanese, having lived and worked in Japan for nearly nine years. This unique background positions her as a valuable bridge for companies seeking to access, collaborate with, or expand into Japanese food and biotechnology markets.
Her research has been supported by government and industry sources including the FDA, USDA, and DoD, with findings presented at international conferences across multiple continents. She has also served as a faculty member at both graduate and undergraduate levels, bringing a commitment to education and knowledge transfer that runs through everything CNW BioConsulting offers.
Her research portfolio includes two peer-reviewed publications on the antimicrobial activity of hops, demonstrating significant inhibitory effects against MRSA and other pathogens. These publications have accumulated strong cumulative downloads, reflecting growing industry interest in natural and plant-based antimicrobial solutions — an area that directly informs CNW BioConsulting's approach to antimicrobial strategy and product development.
Whether working with emerging startups or established industry players, her passion is to deliver tailored solutions and expert scientific guidance to every client she works with.
